ITALY – Part 3 Florence

Update:  I have not been back to Florence.  Some of this information could be outdated.

FlorenceOct 2012

This was my second time to Florence.  However, the first time was going through on a train!  This was my first actual visit.  And I loved it.  Like Rome the historic portion of the city is very walking friendly.  Here everything is condensed into a smaller radius.  No where near the scale of Rome.

Florence feels like an old friend.  It is comfortable to slip into the rhythm of the city and feel at home in no time.

Accommodations in Florence:

We rented a 3 bedroom apartment right in the heart of the old town.  It was an amazing apartment for an amazing price.  The landlady, Tiziana,  was very easy to deal with and gave a lot of valuable tips on places to eat….she also set us up with a taxi to the airport that arrived at our front door.

It had a central private courtyard that opened into the rooms around it.  Every bedroom had their own large, modern bathrooms.

Wifi, washer/dryer, and elevator.

You can see the pictures on the website.  They are true to life.  Highly recommend this place for location, cleanliness, price and ease of renting.

Eating in Florence

Great place for cafe and croissant in the morning

Osteria dei Benci

Local Tuscan Restaurant: good steak (called Fiorentina), soups and pasta, etc.  AMAZING PLACE!
Osteria De’ Benci…fabulous place!
Osteria dei Benci – Roast Potatoes like you have never tasted! Don’t leave Florence without trying! Can be ordered as a side if you like.

Gusta Pizza

Via Maggio, 46R

The best pizza!!!!!  Little place that fills up with young students from the nearby university.  Worth waiting for a table.

So fresh!

Gusta Pizza Florence…..my favorite in Italy!!!

SnapEasyTravel Tip:  It seems people congregate by the till blocking it.  Get inside and squirm your way past crowd to the till and put in order. After you put in order and pay….then while they are cooking your pizza stake out a table and wait close by until it is vacated.   They will bring the pizza to the table.  Specials of the day on chalkboard by door.  There is a cold box at the door.  Tell them what drinks you are going to take from it when you order.

All’ antico Vinaio

Via de’ Neri 65

The absolute best sandwiches ever!  Really tiny place…long line into street most times…..stand in line and wait…..it is worth the wait!!  You choose your bread and what you want on the sandwich….if you are adventurous ask them to just do it for you….they are pros.

No tables…you eat on the curbside.  A few chairs setting around.

All’ antico Vinaio…the absolute best sandwiches ever!
