The linens & large loads of laundry would need to be done at laundromat because the cottage has a mini washer dryer. A local church (Rev Shirley Frazier 504 491-4368) has volunteered to help. She arranges laundry service for veterans thru volunteers at her church.

India House Hostel is a collection of small houses alongside the large main house with an enclosed common area in the back. I had a private twin room with my own bathroom.
The room was very clean and the renovated bathroom nice. My building was quiet during the day and night, although I did not stay during a weekend.
Free wifi, complimentary coffee all day, on site laundry, swimming pool and street parking are available.
Breakfast is served from 9-1 with a full menu, including my favorite ‘The Eye Opener’ with two eggs, bacon, sausage and a pancake for $6. Dinner is available daily at 6pm and generous plates are also $6. The food is great and staff friendly and accommodating.
Within a few blocks, you can find amazing BBQ (with live music), Eagle Rider motorcycle rentals, McDonald’s, Rite-Aid and a corner store open until 10 pm. The streetcar is a stones throw from the front door. $1.25 per ride or $3 day pass.
Taxis from the New Orleans airport into the city are $33 flat rate as well as returns to the airport. India House is approximately a 20-25 minute drive from the airport or, if you have an hour, a bus ride is a couple dollars.
The 20 minute taxi ride to Harch Hyperbarics cost $25-30, depending on traffic. Public transit is an option but will take an hour and a half.
Overall, the stay was great and I would recommend for budget minded traveler with his or her own transport. Without private transport, the location isn’t as convenient but the amenities and price are enough to make India House a great option.
Disclaimer: I have stayed in hostels around the world and am accustomed to that style of lodging. I highly suggest researching a few vital ‘hostel tips’, such as bring a towel, extra blanket or sleeping bag if it’s cold, etc.
